Lauren Smith is a competitive FEI dressage rider and trainer, based out of The Hillside Center in Sedalia, Colorado.
Lauren grew up riding "backyard" horses in the local Cherry Creek Pony Club in Cherry Hills Village. After graduating from college she had a career in interior design. Realizing how much she missed having a horse in her life, Lauren traveled to Europe in 2000 to find her gifted dressage horse Lamiro. Lauren trained him up the levels and was so successful in the Grand Prix as an amateur, people started asking if she would consider becoming a professional to help train and coach their horses.
Aboard Lamiro, Lauren earned her USDF Gold Medal. Together they have been awarded Horse of the Year in RMDS as well as USDF Region V Horse of the Year. They have traveled to California to compete in CDI's and have also successfully shown in Colorado. In 2006, they were ranked 4th in the Nation at Intermediare-I, and in 2008 they were ranked First in the Nation being named USDF Intermediare-II Horse of the Year. They were also awarded the RMDS Intermediare-II Horse of the Year, as well as the RMDS Grand Prix Horse of the Year.
Lauren was the Grand Prix USDF demo rider for the UDSF National Symposium in 2008 with Kyra Kyrklund. She has also been a demo rider for the USDF video series with Steffen Peters and Janet Brown Foy, as well as demo rider for the USDF Adult Amateur Series with Jane Savoie. She has trained with Steffen Peters, Conrad Schumacher, Sue Martin, Debbie McDonald, Jan Ebling and "O" judge Gary Rockwell.
Lauren has trained and coached several RMDS Champions as well as USDF Nationally Ranked Competitors. She has coached several amateur riders to the Grand Prix which has lead them to their USDF Gold Medals. As well as training out of Hillside, she travels giving clinics locally and throughout the Midwest, helping horses and riders all levels develop their communication with each other. She also enjoys riding at the National Western Stock Show participating in An Evening of Dancing Horses, helping to promote and educate the public on the sport of dressage as well as to demonstrate the magic of horse and rider coming together.
